One of my favorite bands in the early 80’s was Adam & the Ants. The first song I think I ever heard was Don’t Be Square, Be There. And after hearing Antmusic, I was a major fan. I bought their Kings of the Wild Frontier album and then I bought their import albums. I was totally in love with their sound, and their lyrics. They actually had some credo, they believed in self-respect and looking good. And honestly, isn’t that a major part of what that decade was about?
The thing that kind of nagged at me was that on the album covers his head looked a little too boxy. Frankly, his head looked big. Then, I stayed up late one night just to catch them on Tom Synder’s talk show, and they were great. Still, his head looked a little over sized to me. And it bugged me.
Don’t get me wrong; I thought that Adam was hot, and I still do. But I tend to get hung up on little things, as noted in other blogs, and the size of his head happened to be one of those things.
So much so that I had to see them in concert. I mean, yeah I really loved them I wanted to see them live anyway, but I had to see Adam’s head. As close as possible. Just to be sure.
The show was great, and his head was, in fact, a little large for his body. And every time I hear an Adam Ant song, it will brighten my mood, and I will think of his big-ass head.
What’s Adam doing now? Well, he wrote an autobiography in 2006, which detailed his personal life, including his bipolar disorder. He has done a lot of acting, and also plans to release an album this year.
